Real torus actions on real affine algebraic varieties

چکیده

We extend the Altmann-Hausen presentation of normal affine algebraic C-varieties endowed with effective torus actions to real setting. In particular, we focus on quasi-split tori, in which case obtain a simpler presentation.

Affine Algebraic Varieties

In this paper, we give new criteria for affineness of a variety defined over C. Our main result is that an irreducible algebraic variety Y (may be singular) of dimension d (d ≥ 1) defined over C is an affine variety if and only if Y contains no complete curves, Hi(Y,OY ) = 0 for all i > 0 and the boundary X − Y is support of a big divisor, where X is a projective variety containing Y . We const...

The Weight Filtration for Real Algebraic Varieties

Using the work of Guillén and Navarro Aznar we associate to each real algebraic variety a filtered chain complex, the weight complex, which is well-defined up to filtered quasi-isomorphism, and which induces on Borel-Moore homology with Z2 coefficients an analog of the weight filtration for complex algebraic varieties. The weight complex can be represented by a geometrically defined filtration ...

Real Algebraic Varieties with Prescribed Tangent Cones

The definition of the tangent cone C(V, p) to an algebraic variety V at a point p was given by Whitney more than 40 years ago as one of the tools to get information about the geometric shape of a variety near a singular point. While the complex case has been widely and successfully studied, including from a computational point of view, only recently have some first attempts been made to elucida...

Quillen Property of Real Algebraic Varieties

A conjugation-invariant ideal I ⊆ C[zj , zj : j = 1, . . . , n] has the Quillen property if every real valued, strictly positive polynomial on the real zero set VR(I) ⊆ C n is a sum of hermitian squares modulo I . We first relate the Quillen property to the archimedean property from real algebra. Using hereditary calculus, we then quantize and show that the Quillen property implies the subnorma...

Affine Actions of a Free Semigroup on the Real Line

We consider actions of the free semigroup with two generators on the real line, where the generators act as affine maps, one contracting and one expanding, with distinct fixed points. Then every orbit is dense in a half-line, which leads to the question whether it is, in some sense, uniformly distributed. We present answers to this question for various interpretations of the phrase “uniformly d...
